When it’s one of those days when you’re hard up on cash, you expectedly look for ways and means to save, wherever and whenever possible. If you’re a tennis enthusiast, one of those ways is by buying used or second hand tennis racquets.
But before you go ahead with your purchase, you have to make sure that you can actually benefit from that second hand buy and not end up being shortchanged. You also have to get from reliable sources and not just from anyone offering to sell their tennis racquets. Read on to know more on certain things you have to consider before buying.
There are various sources from where you can get a good deal on used tennis racquets. One is through EBAY. There are a lot of posts on tennis racquets for sale that you can find on Ebay and other websites as well. Some are of good quality, but there are also those which are very affordable yet have been broken-repaired several times already. You have to be extra careful and meticulous. Check the racquet thoroughly and see to it that there are no signs of damage.
You can also buy your racquets from used good stores. But some word of advice before making your purchase from this store: find time to check out new racquets from different outlets and inquire about the latest models as well as those from last year and the previous years. Examine it closely so that when you finally go to a used goods store, you can already somehow tell if the racquet they’re selling is indeed just a few months old or has already been used for several years.
If you have friends and acquaintances who are planning to sell their racquets, then you can decide to buy their hand-me-downs. It is important to know though, that a used racquet which is still of good quality should not be more than $90—that’s payment for $40 frame, $40 string, and $10 grip. If the grip needs to be changed, disregard the $10. If it’s not a high-end frame, it could be about $20 less. If there are more than 50 games on the strings, that’s also an additional $20 less.
For professional players and commercially sponsored players, their racquets are usually given to them free of charge. Sometimes, after having used their racquets for a few occasions only, they decide to stop using it and put it in storage somewhere. There are also players who use the racquets until such time that they are given new ones by their sponsors.
Always check the racquet closely before deciding to buy one of those slightly used demos. Look for signs of damage on the grip and marks on the strings. If you see that there’s only the slightest damage done and the strings are generally clean, then you can conclude that it’s not that old and that it has not been used to a great extent.
Prices of racquets vary. It could range from $30 to $120. New and low-end racquets are approximately up to $60. New mid-range racquets which are normally pre-strung could cost about $60-$120. High-end racquets that are brand new are, of course, the most expensive ones. These are priced at more than $120 and are still not strung. There would also be a separate cost for stringing, ranging from $25 to $50.
