Tomas Berdych was born on September 17th, 1985 in the city of Valasske Mezirici of the Czech Republic. Berdych’s parents were both skilled professionals. His father was a train engineer and his mother was a doctor. Tomas Berdych started playing tennis at the age of 5 and soon became a top junior tennis player. He won the Czech-Republic title, a 12 years and younger title. His family then moved to Prostejov where he still currently resides. Since, Tomas continues to win numerous more junior tournaments including the prestigious 18 and younger national title. Toma’s favorite thing to do beside tennis is following the Detroit Red Wings. Yes, he is an avid hockey fan.

In 2002, Tomas turned pro after he improved his position from 1,379 to 532,

In 2003, Tomas won the Challengers at Budaors, Graz plus two Challengers Doubles title.

In 2004, one of his best years, he won his first ATP title in Parlemo after beating Filippo Volandri to finish in the top 50.

In 2005, Tomas Berdych didn’t perform as well with a record of 12-19 lose/win but later came back strong towards the end of the year.

In 2006, some consider this to be his most notable since he became the first Czech Republic player to finish at number 1 in the ATP Ranking. Later on, he got into the top 10 for the first time after losing to Fernando Gonzalez.

In 2007, he claimed his 3rd ATP title in Germany at the Gerry Weber Open.

In 2008, Tomas became ill for the first few days of the Hopman Cup where he wasn’t able to perform his best game. Then in July, Tomas made it to the Final of the ATP tournament of Bastad, but unfortunately lost to Tommy Robredo.
