Childhood

Robin Bo Carl Söderling was born in 14 August 1984 in Tibro, is a professional tennis player from Sweden who's now ranked number 5 on the ATP rankings. Söderling gained successive French Open finals in '09 and in 2010. In the tournaments, he defeated the defending champion and number one seed en route to the final - Rafael Nadal in 2009 (turning into the first and, as of yet, only player to beat Nadal during the French Open), and Roger Federer in 2010 (concluding Federer's record streak of 23 consecutive Grand Slam semifinals). He has also won one Masters 1000 event, the 2010 Paris Masters.

Private Life

Söderling speaks English, Swedish and German. His dad Bo is a attorney and mom Britt-Inger, a housewife. Söderling's sister, Sandra, is a teacher. He is engaged to Jenni Moström.

2011

Söderling started playing tennis at the age of five. He earned his first steps in international tennis in November 1998 in Luxembourg when at age of 14 he played his very first official junior competition, losing the opening match to Fred Hemmes, Jr. Within his first full year in the junior tour (2000), he obtained four tournament wins and then in 2001 he gained three more titles within the juniors along with the Orange Bowl. During the very same year Söderling attained 4th place in the year-end ranking and took part in his first ATP tournament in Stockholm, winning his first match 6-3 6-3 from Ramón Delgado.

Soderling's Style of Game

Söderling's style of game was referred to as "brutal". He is known for his ambitious drive and impressive game, striking accurate hard ground strokes. His serve is heavy and exact, perfect for producing a velocity of over 225 km/h (140 mph). He is able to overpower many of his competitors and carries a great return game. His double-handed backhand is compelling and effective, while the forehand is undoubtedly probably the most fatal in today's game. Virtually all of his success comes on faster types of surface (hard surfaces ), while his best Grand Slam results have occurred in the French Open; it's considered to be as a result of heavy conditions and slowness on the clay which permit him a longer period to setup his powerful shots.

Many people have praised Söderling for his game, stating he's a Grand Slam contender and stable top tennis player, though his mental strength and lack of consistency in the game happen to be his flaws. However in the the past svereal years, his mental strength has gotten better considerably and this also has brought up the consistency of his game; much of this has been due to the influence of his former coach, former world #2 and 2000 French Open finalist Magnus Norman. Söderling wears Lotto clothing and recently changed from the Head YOUTEK Radical Midplus racquet to the Head Youtek Prestige Midplus.

Starting in 2011 along with his new coach Claudio Pistolesi at his side, he ended third during the exhibition in Abu Dhabi. Söderlings 1st ATP World Tour tournament of the year was Brisbane International at which he defeated Ryan Harrison, Michael Berrer, Matthew Ebden and Radek Štepánek on the way to the final. Söderling continued to win the event without dropping a set and only broken once, winning against Andy Roddick 6-3, 7-5 in the final. This elevated his standing to No. 4 in the world, increasing his seeding to the Australian Open.
